The NHFA empowers families to care for their own dead by providing educational opportunities and connections to resources that promote environmentally sound and culturally nurturing death practices. This is the place to find information about home funerals, including directories for where to find home funeral guides, home funeral education programs, home-funeral-friendly funeral directors, celebrants and clergy, and groups who will help families when needed. Their goal is to educate the public to their choices and provide clear information.

The 6th Biennial NHFA Conference will be held at the Pearlstone Center in Maryland from September 22-24, 2017, just an hour south of Washington, DC.

Zenith Virago Returns to Austin, Texas for Deathwalker Trainings

Based on the popular response to the 2015 Austin Film Festival screenings of Zen & the Art of Dying, Zenith Virago was recently invited back to Texas to re-screen the film and conduct a 3-day deathwalker training and funeral master class at the Dharma Ranch Retreat Center in San Marcos, Texas. Thanks to Dharma Ranch owners Susan Fitz-Simon and Kelli Cotner for being such great hosts. It’s exciting to see the natural death care work that Zenith and the community of Byron Shire, Australia model resonate with other communities across the globe! Let’s all #DoDeathDifferently

Thanks to everyone who came out to our screening at the Morbid Anatomy Museum on Thursday January 14th. Fantastic to have our New York premiere with a sold-out crowd in such an interesting and engaging cultural space. So great that Brooklyn funeral director Amy Cunningham of Fitting Tribute Funeral Services and Ralph White of New York Open Center were in attendance in order for us to be able to connect local audiences with how they can engage Natural Death Care in New York City! Whether you’re living in the country or a major city, we can all #DoDeathDifferently.

Zen & the Art of Dying to Premiere as Closing Night Gala Film of 2015 Byron Bay International Film Festival

Zen & the Art of Dying will have its world premiere on March 14, 2015 as the closing night gala film at the 2015 Byron Bay International Film Festival, a special evening that will bring together and honor the very community the film celebrates. Filmmaker Broderick Fox met Zenith Virago, the central subject of the film, in 2012 at the Byron world premiere of his last film The Skin I’m In, so this will be a real homecoming, indeed. Fox and executive producer Lee Biolos will travel from Los Angeles to attend the festival. Tickets on sale at via the Byron Community Centre.
